Introducing Our Team
Our Team
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Kyle Rutley
Marketing leader, community volunteer, and outdoor enthusiast dedicated to raising his two sons in Coeur d'Alene. With 8+ years building brands and running his own agency, he blends strategic vision with local roots. When not working or coaching youth sports, you'll find him hiking Canfield Mountain or training clients at the gym – always living by his motto: "The best is yet to come."
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Amy Corbett
Amy is a North Idaho native, born and raised in Coeur d'Alene, with a strong passion for outdoor activities, particularly running. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business, boasting over 20 years of experience in the field, and is now driven to help our community build essential literacy skills for success.
FOUNDER
Kat Gilmore, MA
A passionate advocate for adult literacy, Kat founded The Literacy Project to help North Idaho adults gain vital reading, writing, and English language skills. With a background in literature and philosophy (MA, CSU Long Beach), she believes storytelling and communication empower individuals and communities. When not advancing literacy, she enjoys exploring Idaho’s outdoors.
ESL COORDINATOR
Carol Nelson
Since the days of Dr. Seuss, Carol has had a passion for reading. After a career teaching children, she discovered the Literacy Project in 2022. Now Carol shares her passion with adult learners. She is a tutor, ESL class teacher, and ESL class coordinator. Besides reading, Carol enjoys sewing, gardening, walking, traveling, and thrifting. Her second volunteer job is at the Hospice Thrift Store.
TUTOR SUPPORT
Cathy Parker
I'm a Midwest girl and moved to Coeur d'Alene in 2001. I found teaching and tutoring ESL, through the Literacy Project at NIC, to be my passion since retiring. I'm a homebody and spend time reading, going to the gym, and hanging out with my dogs.
VOLUNTEER COMMUNICATIONS
Nicole Frens
Nicole, still figuring out what she wants to do when she grows up, is currently having fun being an author. After coaching competitive robotics teams for 8 years, and homeschooling her kids (now draining bank accounts attending the two most expensive schools in Spokane), she joined The Literacy Project of North Idaho as the Admin, and is now rocking the emails with Volunteer Communications.
